Two Ways To Prevent IDM From Automatically Downloading

No doubt Internet Download Manager is the most popular download manager today, it can really boost-up your download speed by up to 50% to 70%, but it becomes very annoying when you don't want to download a file and IDM still prompts to download that file. This situation can occur when you want to view a PDF file directly in your browser and instead of viewing it you end-up downloading the file thanks to IDM.

So here I'm sharing two methods to prevent this situation.

Method One

Step 1:

Double-click on the IDM icon in the taskbar.

Step 2:

Click on Downloads from the file menu and go to Options.

Step 3:

In the configurations dialog, select the File types tab, you'll see all the file types on which IDM starts downloading automatically.
Here you can erase any file type so that IDM doesn't starts downloading that type of file automatically.

Step 4:

Erase your desired File type from the list.
I'm removing PDF file type so that i can view them directly into my Google Chrome browser before downloading it. You can erase any other file type.
You can also revert your changes by clicking the Default button under the File types box.

You're done! This was the permanent solution for a File type.

Method Two

Another method to do this is to press the ALT key before clicking the download link. the ALT key will prevent the IDM from catching the download link, so the link will be sent to the browser, if your browser supports that file type it will open it or if it doesn't, it will just get downloaded by your default browser downloader.

ALT key is already set by default, but if it's not working for you or you need to change this settings then follow the steps below:

Step 1:

Repeat Step 1 & 2 from Method One.

Step 2:

In General tab, click on the Keys.. button.

Step 3:

Make sure the ALT key is selected, and then press OK.
